Boomtown car at St Paul’s Carnival!

If you live in Bristol, you may well have been at St. Paul's Carnival last weekend. The carnival is an annual celebration of Afro Caribbean culture, and has flooded the streets of St. Pauls, Bristol in July since it began in 1968.

The procession is filled with local groups who all bring their unique talent and flair, showcasing costumes, dancing and music. To add to all this, this year Boomtown had a mammoth vehicle involved in the procession.

An old taxi once left in the fields of Wales in a state of disrepair, mounted on top of a vintage armoured military vehicle, playing host to a DJ platform and soundsystem with a roaring bassline, the art piece will be developed even further in readiness to roll the streets of Boomtown this August.

Giving people a glimpse of how it’s shaping up, we donated the car to Ujima Radio, Bristol’s biggest African & Caribbean radio station, for the day. The car was decked head to toe with Ujima banners and T-shirts, and had Dancehall Generals taking to the ‘stage’ plus the the DJ’s from The Super Soca Show Atki2, Dub Boy & Jonesy Wales, bringing in one of the biggest crowds of the procession.

Donating this car to Ujima for the day, to help them celebrate 15 years of broadcasting, gave us such an epic feeling of community togetherness, we were blown away by the appreciation from Ujima, and the awe-struck faces of those who watched the car roll through the procession!
